On a Roll to Semifinals

The Mascoma Field Hockey team is going to the semi finals on Thursday, October 26th.  The Royals upset the #2 seed Pelham Pythons 3-0 in the quarterfinal game.  The game was scoreless 25 minutes into the first half then Libbs Jones intercepted a pass and brought the ball up the field and scored.  Going into half time the Royals were up 1-0 but the game was far from over.  Four minutes into the second half Katie Pushee shot and was rejected by the Pelham goalie however, Alyssa Hammond was there to score off the rebound.  The Pythons battled back but the Royals defense came through with a strong game defending a total of 17 corners. With 7 minutes left in the game Bella Kondi cemented the win with a goal on a penalty stroke.  It was an awesome game and the girls dominated the game.  They all came to play today and it showed with the level of intensity in their play.  The Royals will now face Monadnock in the Semi finals on Thursday at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter at 5pm.  We previously faced Monadnock homecoming weekend and lost 1-0 in over time.  The Royals have come a long way  since that game and have all the confidence that they can defeat them.

Royals Battle Back for a win on the road

The Varsity Field Hockey team started off slow in the first half of their game vs John Stark.  With 5 shots on goal and 5 offensive corners the Royals just couldn't  seem to find the net.  We had a lot of chances but just didn't execute.  Remaining scoreless at the half  we reminded the girls " not to settle to just be okay, or play hard enough to just get by.  Dig in and be better than your opponent, don't settle for anything less. Leave everything you have out on the field."  Coming out in the second half the girls did just that. Elizabeth Jones scored 11 minutes into the second half off an assist from Katie Pushee.  Katie then scored on an assist from Julia Fox.  With 3 minutes left in the game Morgan Prentiss intercepted a pass and dribbled past her opponent and fired a shot in the net from the right side of the circle. The final goal was scored by  Alyssa Hammond ricocheting a cross from Prentiss  with 20 seconds left in the game.  " It was great to see the team come together and push each other through the 2nd half of the game.  We just now need to get them to bring that same level of intensity right out of the gate at the start of the game.  They are a talented group of athletes and just need to come out strong for the entire 60 minutes."

Royals win in OT vs. Tigers

The Royals turned in a strong performance from start to finish to gain their first win of the season in OT vs Newport 1-0. Offensively, it was a tough fought game between the two teams but defensively the Royals were stronger. The Royals had a chance at an offensive advantage when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the first period, but were unable to capitalize.  Being down two starters(Kayla Hammond-Ankle and Alyssa Hammond Shinn) due to injuries we pulled up Taylor Crate, Paige Jette and Sophia Gusciwicz to help fill in, and they did an amazing job. Going into OT Michaela Dowd intercepted a pass from Kendall Hamilton of Newport.  Dowd passed the ball to Nicole Williams who inturn dished it off coming up field  to Katie Pushee. Katie went one on one with the goalie. pulling it to her right making her off balance and sent the ball past  Stacia Dame in to the  Newport cage.  An exciting game and amazing effort by each individual of the team to help bring home the first win of the season.

The Royals head to Gilford on Wednesday.

Tough Loss in Season Opener

The Royals suffered a tough loss in their season opener losing 3-0 against Newfound.  We dominated the first 20 minutes of the first half before the Bears scored making it 1-0 at the half.  The Royals bounced back and still played tough in the second half.  We saw a lot of positives throughout the game today and still have somethings to work on going forward.  Overall, we were happy with the effort we saw from the girls throughout this game and look forward to see what they will continue to bring throughout the season.

Jamboree Results

The Mascoma Field Hockey program played in the Keene High School Jamboree on August 19th.  They played in four games of which 3 were against division 2 schools and the final game was against a division 3 school.  The girls had a strong outing having three victories and one loss.  The girls came out a little flat in the first game but after working through some nerves were able to play to the potential they are capable of.
