Varsity Field Hockey roll to 3-0

Updated on 02/01/2023

The Mascoma Varsity Field Hockey team played a tough game against the Hopkinton Hawks. The Royals brought home the win by outscoring the Hawks 2-1.  Hopkinton forward Katie Meserve scored with 8.56 left in the first half but the Royals answered right back with  with 7:59 left in the half. The Royals made an aggressive offensive push with Amelia Wilson coming away with a goal.  Bella Kondi came out and drilled a goal in on an offensive corner in the second half.  The heat and humidity definitively played a factor in the level of intensity brought to the game.  Coach Hammond called both of her timeouts so her players could catch their breath and take in more water.  "Its tough when it is so hot out and you have low numbers for your program.  Having only 3 substitutions makes you have to methodically figure out when to sub and when not to.  There are teams in our division that have much larger programs and competing against teams that can constantly have fresh legs puts us at a disadvantage.  Our girls play all out all game and I am very proud of how this season has started out and more good things will come their way.    The entire team came together and pushed through the elements.  Abby Duhaime was in goal and had 7 saves.

The Royals travel to Mascenic on Friday.

Royals Roll over the Bears

Updated on 02/01/2023

In front of a large and loud homecoming crowd the Lady Royals played another aggressive game and upset the undefeated Newfound Bears 2-0. The Royals came out with a lot of desire to beat the bears after losing to them in the DIII State Championship game last year and it showed in how they performed today.  They dominated offensively and out shot the bears 13-1.  The time was 0-0 at the half and 13 minutes into the second half Morgan Prentiss scored with a redirection shot.  6 minutes after that Amelia Wilson scored on a rebound off a corner.   Abby Duhaime was in goal for the Royals and had 1 save.    This game was an entire team effort and they played out all out all 60 minutes.   The Royals face Winnisquam on Tuesday.

Field Hockey Makes Another Run for a State Title

Updated on 06/10/2022

After being disappointed about not being able to play their semi final game on Tuesday, the Royals roared back in front of a large and loud crowd and pulled out all the stops to beat Lebanon 1-0 on Wednesday night at Hanover High School.  Both teams came out strong but the Royals were able to score off a corner. Michaela Dowd inserted to Nicole Williams whose shot went wide. Amelia Wilson was able to re-direct to Mackenzie Labrie who was able to fire it in.   Lebanon came back with some strong offensive push but the Royals defense dominated and didn't let anything through.  Abby Duhaime had 1 save.  Freshman Morgan Towne did an outstanding job having to start in the place of Lily Bennett who was sick. Every individual of this team has been a major factor in our success and we look forward to competing in the Championship at 4pm on Sunday at Bedford High School
