Royals Win: 4 - 0
The Royals left no doubt as to who the stronger team was on the field at Fall Mountain High School on Saturday. Mascoma won decisively 4-0 on the road against their only D-III regular season competitor this fall with COVID restrictions on travel in-place.
Mascoma's Ben Seiler scored his first of 4 goals only 2 minutes into the game off of an assist from teammate Gavin Giovagnoli. The Royals' midfield and backs dominated ball possession in this game and fed the offensive pushes repeatedly throughout the first half. Ben Seiler snuck through for an unassisted 2nd goal 22 minutes into the first half. Fall Mountain managed only 1 shot on net in the first half, with 1 save recorded for Mascoma goal keeper Connor Thompson.
The second half was a bit more active for the Mascoma defense. Fall Mountain's offense was more aggressive and managed to fire off 3 shots on Mascoma's net, with one leading to quite a scuffle in the box, but keeper Connor Thompson somehow managed to come up with the ball and preserved his shut out for the game. Mascoma's Ben Seiler scored on a free kick in the 52nd minute, and again in the 72nd minute off of an assist from freshman teammate Aidan Smith.
Mascoma's ball possession and passing is showing improvement as the season marches forward. Forward wing Gabe Sperry and defensive midfielder Zach Thompson really kept the offense moving down the field with strong possession and passing, and the defensive U played flawlessly throughout the game to stop just about all of the attacks mounted by the Fall Mountain Wildcats. Connor Thompson had 6 saves for Mascoma. Mascoma plays at home against D-I Hanover this Wednesday; game time yet to be confirmed.

Royals Win: 4 - 1
The Mascoma Royals played Fall Mountain at home on Tuesday in their DIV III debut. With COVID rules, Fall Mountain is the only in-Division team that Mascoma plays during the regular season this year.
Mascoma led 2-0 at the half after Ben Seiler scored 2 separate penalty kicks following Fall Mountain fouls in the box. Fall Mountain opened the 2nd half with a well-struck goal from Fall Mountain's #17, Nate Town. Mascoma didn't stay quiet for long, as Cole Moulton served up a well-placed ball to teammate Zach Thompson to make the score 3-1. Mascoma's Ben Seiler struck again for his 3rd hat trick of the short season with an upper 90 ace free kick from about the 45 yard line. Connor Thomspson had 9 saves for Mascoma, while Fall Mountain's keeper Brayden Ring saved 8 shots on goal.
The score doesn't reflect the intensity with which the game was played. The midfielders from both teams fought hard in changing weather conditions to possess and control the ball. Mascoma Midfielders Gavin Giovagnoli, Cole Moulton, Zach Thompson, Aidan Smith, and Grant Suttie gave outstanding performances in the home-field Div III contest.
Mascoma takes on Fall Mountain twice again this week: JV meets Fall Mountain @ MVRHS on Thursday 10/1 at 4 pm, and the varsity squad travels to Fall Mountain for a 10 a.m. game this Saturday, 10/3.

Royals Win: 7 - 0
Mascoma dominated possession on the field at Newport on Wednesday, taking an early and definitive lead. Ben Seiler scored 2 quick goals in the first half, and then took a supporting role on the field along with many of his offensive teammates, allowing for the back-up players to get some experience. That move paid off for 3 non-starters to each score: Aidan Smith, Nik Ladue, and Allan Hammond all scored their first varsity career goals in the first half to give Mascoma a 5-0 halftime lead. Connor Thompson had one save in the first half - a finger-tip rolling tip-up, to preserve a shutout at the half, before he, too, allowed the back-up goalie, freshman Isaiah Hogan, to get some varsity net experience.
In the second half of the game, Seiler scored with a shot from outside the 18-yd box, to give Mascoma a 6-0 lead. Later in the second half, Cole Moulton scored on a header that was crossed from teammate Zach Thompson. Isaiah Hogan recorded 2 saves as the second half goalie. Assists were awarded to Duncan Tuttle, Zach Thompson, Gavin Giovagnoli, Gabe Sperry, and 2 assists were awarded to Cole Mouton. The Newport keeper was kept busy with 16 saves on the night.
Mascoma meets Newport at Mascoma on Friday 9/25/20 for a 5:30 p.m. game time start.

4.0 years ago
Royals Win: 2 - 1
Mascoma took the lead 1-0 with a goal from Cameron Stebbins, assisted by Gabe Sperry. Stevens answered for a first half 1-1 tie. Stevens scored quickly in the second half to take the lead 2-1. The game was evenly matched and well-played; Mascoma battled fiercely, but just couldn't net another goal despite a few opportunities. Connor Thompson had 5 saves. Stevens is a Division II soccer program, so for a first game, played up a division, with such a close outcome, the Royals can take what they learned tonight & apply it to the rest of their Division III season. The Royals travel to Newport on Tuesday, 9/22.
